Managers are required to address financial, interpersonal, legal, operational, and strategic problems using a variety of techniques and skills that are designed to lead to the achievement of organizational success. The management major is designed for people who want to gain a mix of the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills that will enable them to succeed as professional managers and leaders of the organization of the future. The focus is on learning the interpersonal, systems, and strategic skills necessary to build and manage effective teams in both public and private organizations. Coursework in administrative theory, entrepreneurship, human resource management, international business, organizational behavior, and project management (among others) emphasizes the processes of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling organizations. With strong ties to industry and teaching that is research-led, the Department of Management offers a world-class management education that is steeped in a pedagogy that stimulates the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as the technical knowledge required to develop strong managerial competencies.
